STORIES TOLD BY THE GARDEN

How sweet is the pleasure one enjoys up on the hill of Koukouritsa… Wherever one looks, one does not behold simple, natural landscapes, but wonderfully majestic paintings, in which everything seems to have been positioned together purposefully to fill the soul of the viewer with lively desires… From this summit, the mountains of the island are displayed in infinite majesty, and appear to communicate with those of the mainland…

Emmanuel Theotokis, Details sur Corfu, 1826

This section presents the stories related by those who at some point lived here and shaped the estate at Kourkouritsa over the past two hundred years. These stories also tell how, in recent years, the development of the garden has gone hand in hand with the re-opening of the museum.
